Mrs. Hefley stopped in on Thursday for her 1st Classroom Guidance lesson. We love when Mrs. Hefley comes to say "Hi!" She will be coming to visit on Thursdays from 12:15-12:45 through November. The last 3 visits will be Good Touch, Bad Touch lessons. We look forward to seeing you again this week Mrs. Hefley!
Since Friday, September 11th, we have been talking about Patriotism and what that means to each of us. We have talked about the flag, war, and our local heroes. Thanks to the awesome parents and students we have in 2nd grade, we gathered up some yummy snacks and made some awesome baskets to deliver to our local fire and police stations. They even took us for a tour of the stations, checked out some fire trucks, and saw the K9 police dog. They were extremely appreciative for the snacks, pictures, and notes from the kids. (I heard the firemen ate most of their snacks within a couple of days!!!!) Then on Thursday, Casey Tornedon, Dane's dad, came and we presented him with a snack basket and some pictures and notes to share with some of his friends that are in the military. Thank you to all of our community heroes, past and present, for all you do to our community and country safe!
We spent the 1st few weeks getting to know each other and taking our beginning of the year assessments. They have taken a lot of tests: MAPS, Lexia, STAR, Baseline tests for reading and math, and a long district assessment. WHEW!!!!! Don't worry, we have found time to have a lot of fun in there as well!
We have already finished our 1st read aloud, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and enjoyed the 1999 version of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. We spend the end of the day Thursday finding things that were the same and different between the book and the movie. They did a great job! |
